Alaska: day two: musk ox farm

Next up: a visit to a musk ox farm. Did you know, musk ox hair can get spun into qiviut. It's very rare, each musk ox gets brushed one time a year, and gives off only 2-4 pounds of hair. This hair is spun and woven into hats, scarves and other pretty things by native Alaskans. It's very light weight, but keeps you VERY warm. Allie says she can only wear hers when it's less them 30 degrees outside. It's very expensive, because of it's rarity.

Owen and a musk ox.
 A beautiful view.

The kids got to be "helpers" during the tour.

These musk ox were just a year old, we could feed them through the fence.
 Alaska is very very pretty.

When learning about the musk ox, we were told that they love being in the snow. Kaiya asked if they make "musk ox angels" in the snow. We all, including the tour guide, had a great laugh.
