Hawaii: volcano

After the helicopter, we continued our drive to Volcano National Park. It was still quite rainy and grey, but we got to see some pretty cool stuff. Obviously, we didn't take into consideration the caution signs... I'm sure we'll be OK.Owen getting a lesson on lava rocks from grandma.
A super cheesy pose.

Somewhat better. For all you crossword solvers out there: this is a nene. A Hawaiian goose. (also I think the state bird)

At a lookout, we could see the caldera: steam coming out of the volcano. Owen liked the rocks, or the dirt. Probably both.

The volcano.
Family photo.

All along the drive were little stops where steam vents were. This is one of them.

Same volcano... different view.

We drove to where a lava tube was. Very tropic looking.

Owen passed out on the three hour car ride home. He woke and started crying about 15 minutes before we got to the condo... what a long day for the little man...
