Big News
Big News: Owen's going to be a big brother! That's right... we are pregnant! We saw the baby's heartbeat last Friday. Here is a picture, the blob at "five o'clock" is the little guy/gal.
Currently, our official due date is Valentine's day. (yes, it seems forever away for me too!). So far, I'm just occasionally nauseous (not too bad) and smells are overwhelming (great, except when I'm at work).
Sunday with Grandpa
We were spoiled this weekend. First, Saturday night out. AND also Sunday night. Last night, we went to see RENT for my mother's day present. About six weeks ago, I had this conversation with Lucas:
Me: Hey Lucas, do you want to see RENT?
Lucas: NO!!!
Me: Hey Lucas, I mean, you are taking me to see RENT for Mother's Day.
Lucas: OK, then I will go. You buy the tickets.
So, last night my parents (aka Grandma and Grandpa) came up to watch Owen while Lucas and I enjoyed a nice dinner and theater. I LOVED it. Lucas HATED it. But I'm pretty sure I loved it enough for both of us... He's a good guy for even going with me!
Owen had fun with my parents.
They climbed the stairs many many times. So much, that mom said he's knees were bright red.

Weekend
Just a few pictures from the first part of our weekend. Saturday night we went to Tony's surprise 50th birthday party. I think it was a true surprise too! Owen stayed at home with Lucas' parents (aka Grammie and Grandpa) he had a good time. (as did they)

Fork it Over
Owen is learning how to eat with a fork. It seems easier than a spoon, but more dangerous to the eyes. But he's getting it. Today for lunch he had mac-and-cheese with broccoli. He still needs the veggies in it to eat it, but the ratios have decreased substantially. Soon, my kid will be like the others... a plain mac and cheese eater.
Here's a little video of him stabbing the macaroni successfully and eating it. Second try, not too successful... then the final realization: hands are still quicker! He also was stabbing the left over pancakes from this morning which are also on the tray.

Big book
Owen has a new word... While I'm pretty sure he's saying "see it"... but it sure does sound like "shit". It makes me laugh... He says it while pointing at things, so I hope it's "see it"...
Here's my happy man smiling at the camera.

Owen got a huge book for his birthday. It's a "find it" book. He will gently turn the pages, occasionally sit on it, kiss the page with the monkey eating the banana. He's just so sweet!

new additions
Today is a big day in Lucas and my life... we upgraded our phones to "i phones"... No longer are we the owners of flip-phone technology (see picture below)...

Today, we entered G3 technology... I can find a restaurant, map it, and figure out the driving, walking or mass transit directions to such restaurant. I can check my email, my voicemail, my stocks (if I had any). I can play drums, play whop-a-mole, and poker (if I so choose to pay $0.99 for these games). It can fart on command...yes, there is an app for for that.
We like our new phones...

Penguin
It's not the best of photos... somehow, I always wake up Owen when I try to take a picture of him sleeping. So, this is super zoomed, from the doorway.
Owen got a penguin for Christmas from his Aunt Suzi. He LOVES it! When he gets into the crib, he grabs it, squeezes it, kisses him and talks to him for a while before going to sleep. (we occasionally keep the door cracked a half an inch and spy on him... I'd love to get a video of it... but there's no way he'd do it if he knew we were watching!) He will use it as a little pillow, but most the time, we find him "spooning" penguin. It's so sweet!

Graduations and Markets
Yesterday, I went to the zoo twice. The first time, Lucas, Owen and I ventured out to see all the animals. We thought being a cloudy Friday morning, not many people would be there. We were right, if you weren't counting every elementary school in the Portland-Metropolitan area celebrating the last day of school! Kids EVERYWHERE!! We still had fun.
The second trip to the zoo was for my best friend Tiffany's graduation from pediatric residency. She is DONE! Now, she is off to Phoenix. I'm glad I'll have a place to visit in the winter!
Today we went to the farmer's market. Owen had his first cherry and raspberry. He, of course, loved them both! (He also had: biscuit, cheese, egg, sausage, pate' and bread... I have a very hungry caterpillar!)
First bite:

At first, I thought this picture was an erasable shot... then I noticed both Lucas and Owen have the SAME face on... too funny!

One Year Check-up
This is last night...

This was after the doctor, but before the shots. Note the destruction of the paper underneath him...
He cried for a little bit after the shots, and then in the car ride I found him trying to eat his band aid... Thank goodness he's facing forward now!
Owen passed his one year check up at the doctor's this morning. His stats:
22lb 9 oz (50%)
30.5inches (75%)
Still tall and skinny.
AND, Dr. Snyder said he was in the top five cutest kids he's seen... while I'm sure he says this to all the parents... I have to agree with him!
