Bolognese

Lucas cooked dinner for his parents and us on Sunday. He started around noon, and made this yummy, delicious, fantastic bolognese sauce. This is a beginning photo.
This, is about four hours later...

He/we also made homemade pasta. First flour.

Add some eggs.

Knead for eight minutes.

Send through the "Pasta Queen". (this is actually my parents' machine, who loaned it to my sister Suzi, who has hence loaned it to us)

Cut into strips, boil until tender, and serve with above sauce. YUMMY!

Serve dinner with a anti-pasta plate. (designed by me)

Finish up with some hand made strawberry ice cream. Owen's first ice cream experience... and he LOVED it!

What's Gross?

What's Gross? The fact that Owen (and anyone) poops full kernels of corn.

What's Grosser than that? When Lucas is changing Owen's poopy pants and the corn falls out of the diaper on the the changing pad.

What's Grosser than THAT? Owen eating the kernel of corn.

(we have not seen it again)

Cannon Beach

We went to Cannon Beach this past Monday. It was a typical "Oregon Beach Day". Cloudy, misty and drizzly, a perfect beach day. We even got to dig out our sweatshirts!

We went out to lunch... a very disappointing experience. Horrible food. Horrible service. But at least I had good company.
We ordered Owen a kids meal, which came with some milk. He tried to use the straw, but he just doesn't have that skill yet. He sure did try though... a little more practice.

He's still used to using the "baby bird" straw technique.Milk in a Mariner's sippy cup is much better!

Sweet Boy

I was in the kitchen the other day, and Owen was playing in the family room. He was being a little noisy, pulling off cook books from the shelves, rummaging through crossword puzzles. Then he got eerily silent. Never a good thing. So, I went to take a peek. He had managed to untie, and open, my "junk cupboard". (as you can see from the photo) He found a little lamb that I was planning to send off as a baby gift for a friend. Owen was hugging, and kissing this little lamb. He had rescued it from the cupboard. Sweet boy.

He took it everywhere he went that day... even to watch a little Sesame Street with his dad.

Owen is also a big helper when I go to the bathroom. He likes to unwind the toilet paper. So, I took it off it's holder. Then, he figured out how to "unspring" the paper holder and make THREE new pieces from it! Smart baby. He also likes to look through the garbage basket. Always good to make sure nothing important was thrown away.
Who knew going to the bathroom could be such an adventure!

monkey lover

While feeding Owen dinner tonight, I started making monkey noises for some reason... Owen LOVED it. Even enough to repeat our performance for the camera!

Dad's Birthday

We went down to Salem for Dad's birthday on Thursday. It was also time for the annual Fireworks Extravaganza! Dad and Lucas always have a great time setting everything up... the anticipation is palpable.
Before fireworks could begin, Owen had to play with all of mom's bears. He LOVES them!

We also went out for dinner before the extravaganza. Dad had a Long Island Ice Tea, Lucas got the world's largest margarita. So, big, that he and dad had to share the remainder. They were both tipsy enough that they let me take this picture!

When we got home, Owen went to bed and we got to eat yummy yummy apple pie.

After pie, we started the fireworks. They were great as always. I can't wait until next year!

Canada Day

We went to Owen's second Canada Day Celebration today. He's so much bigger (and busier) than last year. He had a good time, but when the clock struck 7:00pm, his energy evaporated.

Here's Owen and Lucas. Owen and Tony. I promise Tony isn't trying to eat his hand...

Owen chased the beach ball around and around and around and around... Then he took his eyes off of it for a minute, and the "older kids" (18 and 20 months) took it to play with. Owen didn't seem to mind... he just seemed tired.

I'm impressed that he didn't fall asleep on the car ride home. He had half open eyes the entire way. He barely made it through the new diaper and a little milk... but now he's upstairs just talking away. I think he's telling Penguin all about his fun day!
