While it is horrible to have a child on hospice, it is equally as horrible to try to discuss this with your five year old. Owen is, and always has been, older than his age. Most of his life has been filled with hospitals and doctors, all for a sick brother. It's Owen's "norm" and he has always taken his role with grand responsibility.
He has never known death, or what it really means. So, trying to help Owen through this time is humbling and horrible. We have taken his lead, we have had many conversations about how sick Henry is, about immune systems, and about death. Each conversation is short, but Owen asks such good questions.
Here, Lucas and Owen discuss it a little bit more. Such a big guy.
