Friday: Part two

After the museum, we went to the Purple Pig. Yummy.
Owen loved the fried pigs ears, and ate bone marrow. He is adventurous! And we love him for it!

 A random street performer.
Next up, and boat tour of the river and lake. Owen is holding a balloon sword that the street performer gave him. After this picture, the captain of the boat yelled at us for standing on the seats. It became a running joke the rest of the trip. "DON'T STAND ON THAT!"
Beautiful pictures of Chicago. Such a pretty city. Each building, during the boat tour we learned about the architecture of each building... yeah, I think they are pretty, I don't remember all the details.

Owen got a little tired, and curled up for a bit. Such a big kid, but still a little guy sometimes.
Eric and Owen looking back at the city, while we go through the locks to get to Lake Michigan.

 Goofy boys.

After our ride, we were drawn into this amazing group of drummers.

Owen loved walking in the big city.

We went back to Tiffany's place, and played some hoops while waiting for dinner.
 Me and Tiffy!
Our dinner. Now that's a Chicago deep dish pizza!

 The view from our hotel.

Chicago: Friday, Part one

Friday morning, Tiffany had to work, so Eric played tour guide. We went to the Science and Industry Museum. I think we saw about a third of it. It was amazing.

We started with the big tractors and combines.

Owen really wanted to see the submarine, a U-boat. U-505, captured by the USA. I didn't think it was going to be fun, but it was amazing. Owen has good taste.
The tiny bunks, and these weren't for the enlisted men, theirs were smaller!

A very cool shadow game, balls would fall down and you could "catch" them with your shadow.

Chicago: Thursday

We took a family vacation to Chicago, to visit Tiffany, Eric and Charlie. Also, to have a bunch of fun, and to introduce Owen to the world of travel. He did amazing! It was surreal sometimes to realize that this was our first vacation without Henry. I kept thinking of all the things he would love... the "L", the plane, the boat, the adventure... but this is what Henry taught us, play and have fun... life is short. So, we played, and had a great time!
Here is Owen and his boarding pass. We had to be at the airport super early, but he did great (he's such a morning guy. I have no idea where he got that from!)
He tried a sip of my coffee. He declared it disgusting, that's just more for me.
Like father like son. Enjoying the airplanes.
 Pengu enjoyed the plane too.
Owen got a compass the night before from his grandma and grandpa... it was hours of entertainment, which is just what we needed for the plane rides!
Waiting for our connection, enjoying food on the run.

Waiting for Tiffany and Eric in front of Frontera Grill.
 My boys.

Our garden

On Sunday, Robert came over with the girls to help us build two raised garden beds for our front yard. He did most the work, with Lucas' help. I watched the kids play.
 Helper Owen.

 Silly faces in a box.

Final project! We planted seeds for beets, snap peas, carrots and radishes today.

Owen was very careful to water the seeds, without drenching them.

I'm excited to see what we will actually get to grow!
