On our car ride up, we found a little spot of grass by a gas station for a diaper change and a leg stretch. It just proves, fun can be found wherever you are, especially if you are with the ones you love.

CDA: the Lake
We just got back from a wonderful week-long vacation in Couer d'Alene, ID. We had a great time... and I have a thousand (OK just 159) photos... so I will begin the postings. No fear, you won't see all 159.

Big Day in Owen History
Tonight we had some friends over for dinner. Lucas grilled up some shrimp, pollenta and veggies. It was all quite yummy. While people were over, we kept trying to get Owen to show off his new skill: Standing on his own. He's been doing it for a few days. His record: 9 seconds.
However, every time we tried to make him stand. His legs turned into spaghetti and he would get to the ground as fast as he could. No demonstrating tricks tonight.
Then, everyone left. I'm pretty sure Nick and Kasi were still in the driveway, when Lucas stood Owen on the ground. Then, out of nowhere he did it! THREE STEPS towards me!
Of course, we made him do this over and over and over again... towards Lucas, toward me, towards Lucas, towards me (you get the picture). We were crying and laughing, just like proud parents! It was no fluke. My kid took steps! He is walking! Not too far... but walking is walking! I guess he has a new skill to show off now!

ick
Q. What tastes like dirt, but has the texture of rocks?
A. A handful of dirt and rocks.
Just ask Owen how that tastes... he was quicker than me this morning and got a big mouthful.

Zoo
Lucas got off work early yesterday, so we met him at the zoo. I think this may be the first trip where I feel Owen was looking at, and enjoying all the animals. In the past, I know the zoo trip was more for me than for him. He loved pointing at the fish. (there's a sturgeon in the bottom right)
Bolognese
Lucas cooked dinner for his parents and us on Sunday. He started around noon, and made this yummy, delicious, fantastic bolognese sauce. This is a beginning photo.
